Teaching Lessons provides an innovative and well-researched approach to helping schools excel. It represents a much-needed infusion of good sense and experience at a time where the federal government edicts limit the flexibility of teachers and schools to adapt to the needs of their students. At one time, teachers had the freedom to do what they knew would work best; one size does not fit all. Willis’ approach unleashes teachers to do their jobs in a way that benefits their students and helps them see improved results. By suggesting that we eliminate the political, Willis has pressed on a political hot button, but one that needed to be attacked. His detailed approach would help any teacher willing to buck the system and be the teacher they always knew they could be.
The focus on measurement and making a point to understand what it means to learn are too often overlooked. This is a readable, well-organized manual to fix our broken schools and should be in every teacher’s book bag. We’re tried centralized approaches; let’s get back to individual ways of working.
